The project of Khunde Hospital
Khunde hospital is located in Kunde village at an altitude of 3,840 meters of the Mt. Everest region was built in 1966 by Sir Edmund Hillary on the request of the Sherpa Community. It is a 15 bedded hospital, which provides OPD service, delivery and maternal/child health service, distribution of contraceptive and immunization service, inpatient and outpatient service, and pathology service. The hospital is operated by a doctor in charge and a medical officer along with a nurse, CMA, ANM, and Lab technician. The hospital has expanded its services to village health clinics at Phortse, Thame, and Monju. The Hospital and its peripheral outreach clinics are entirely funded by Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation, Canada since 1977. The hospital is being managed under the constitution of Himalayan Trust Nepal.
